To celebrate the end of our unit on writing "All About" books--which coincided with our unit on understanding the main topic and key details of nonfiction books--we invited parents and staff to an animal museum. Visitors got listen to students read aloud from their books about cats, fish, birds, insects, spiders, bats, horses, and dinosaurs. They also got to check out paper cut-outs, made by the students, of each of those animals. There are some photos of the museum below; click through to read about the unit that led up to it, plus what I'd like to do to improve this unit next year.
